Blow, Blow and still Blowing. Have a little window this afternoon before the wind switches and starts to blow from the SW to gale force again. Hopefully after this week things settle down. Sloppy troll this morning but up at the point fishing is good. Just outside the pier head fishing was tough. Lots of fish should still be available, fish are just trickling up the river. In order to get the fish up there we need a NE blow and if the forecast holds true, by the end of the week that should happen. Below Scottville there are a lot of fish up in the river, with quite a few fish being caught but they have not moved into the upper reaches heavy yet. Looking forward to moving off shore for the 2,3yr olds and steelhead. These fish if the water holds and the temps stay cool, should be within easy reach. Once we find them they usually don't move too much unless a big blow occurs. When fishing offshore, even if you are catching fish up high don't hesitate to throw a rigger deep. A favorite bait of mine is a Fuzzy Modified Gr Dolphin 95-135ft down on a short lead(8ft). Last year a Gr Spin doctor with Gr Holographic Tape was my best with an 8ft lead sttarting out 95ft down and then105-115ft as the day progressed. Wish I had more to report but with the waves nobody fished until this morning and it is still very, very sloppy out there.

Went home for a couple of days due to customers cancelling trips because of the forecast, and it was rough from what I heard. But---fishing was very good along the bank. Deep sets were the ticket because of the warm water but even if the water is warm and the bait is there the fish show up. 90-110ft down was the target depth. Paddles in Black & White w/Crush and Slick tape on riggers with Plugs mixed in. Captains Choice and Silver Hordes in plain glow according to one captain were on fire. Meat rigs--must have glow heads according to the successful meaters. Best for these guys is nothing fancy, put the teasers behind the 10" Spin Doctors with the glow heads. The Black and White Glow and Froggie Glow teasers with glow heads. Yes it is supposed to BLOW friday but a west blow has been cooling the water down, not warming it up-- let's hope this one brings more of the same and we start fishing up on top this weekend.

Fishing today was what we have been waiting for!! The bank set-up, bait moved in last night and fishing was good and then this morning it was on fire!! 100-120ft 00's to 05's it was on fire. Plugs 70-80ft down on riggers, Spin Doctors and Paddles on riggers 80-100ft down, and Spin Doctors and Paddles 200ft back on highs and 150ft back on low wire divers. Many big, high teen catches coming in, mostly 4yr olds but Coho and 2-3yr old Kings to round out the catch. Like I said yesterday the water looks like it is finally setting up and if it stays this way we may have great fishing for 3 more weeks like 2yrs ago. Last night White Paddles just off the bottom from 90-115ft of water and Mtn Dew Spin Doctors on high divers and low wires were very great. Plugs from 40-90ft down on riggers were good, especially the last hour and 1/2 of daylight. Plugs on 300coppers this morning were good but the full core bite was slower because the fish were deeper. Little Point which was slow yesterday was on fire again this morning also. We have had horrific currents this year and unstable water conditions but it looks like things are starting to set-up. If the water remains this way the deep water should be set-up also for the steelhead and 2,3yr old kings. A lot of coho coming in this morning from the bank and Little Point which is also giving us access to more fish.

Overall fishing was tough today, many were struggling. Little Point was tough fishing and our bank is finally starting to set-up. We saw quite a few fish on our first north troll, especially in the 00's and 01's but it was a tough bite. Almost all of our fish today had mag size Alewives in them. Basically 2 rods did most of the damage. Rigger down 130ft w/8" White Spin Doctor and a Core and 1/2 with a 1/2lb 10 passes back w/Wonder bread J-Plug. Took other bites and and fish on 300 copper w/Wonderbread Yeck Mag, 300 copper with Dbl Glow Ace Hi and riggers with Glow Plugs 70-80ft down. Divers were non existent for me, like riggers were yesterday. Cold water was pushed down 90-100ft but by 10:00am the cooler water was pushing back on the bank. Best water for me was 120-130ft from the 01's to 05.0, then kicking it out to 180-250ft just north of the stick.

Studdly Doo Right says he is fit and in shape, but his lady kicked his butt in fishing--she didn't have to pass a rod off with a fish on it. He kept saying it was hurting his golf arm??

Fishing was much better on the bank today than yesterday. Starting out 5 & full cores with plugs(Gr Ladder Backs and Splatter Backs) were great, high divers 75ft-125ft were going very well with plugs and Spin Doctors. Spoke with several other guys that had a very weak rigger bite like we did, 0 bites 0 fish. 70-90ft was good from the 01's to north of the stick. After daylight in 90-100ft, fish kept lickin the baits, Chrome Mtn Dews and Blue Bubbles on highs back 125 and wires 80ft on one side and plugs the same distance on the divers on the other side of the boat. Full cores with plugs and 300 coppers with plugs were going also. Best rod for me later in the day was a 300 copper with Gr. Lightening Ace Hi taking 5 bites the last hour---too bad most of them didn't stick!! The water was 47-50deg down 45ft to start out but as the wind picked up and turned a little more west it was pushing down hard at the end of the trip. Temp was 64deg down 65ft at 10:45am. It will be interesting to see what tomorrow brings.

Fishing the last 2 days has been very good at the Pier Head!! The Pond was very good this morning and into the late morning High divers back 50ft and riggers 12-20ft down with plugs and Spin Doctors. (Moonshine Agent orange, Tangerine Tarzan and Leopard are killer baits in that stained water, also worked well in the dark this morning off the bank.) Also working well are 3 and 5 colors with Plugs---you have to be careful running these with the boat traffic and not complain when you lose it!! North of the Point and the bank was slow this morning, the water warmed up considerably from the last couple of days and the fish weren't there. Little Point slowed down also today warming up drastically from last night. Looks like we have 5 days of a south wind and that should warm things up, I am hoping it sets up the deep water for the 2,3yr olds and Steelies and coho!! A mix of J-Plugs and Silver horde Gr Ladder backs and Splatter Backs, Moonshine and DW Captains Choice Plugs on riggers divers and cores have been taking fish consistently early and late in the day, gradually changing over to some spoons on riggers and cores. As I said earlier in the year I would report on DW Captains Choice Plugs and how they worked for me compared to Ace Hi's, as of now, for me, they are out fishing them at this time. They sound different and maybe that gets these kings going at this time of the year. Also I have had none of them crack and fill with water!!! Probably tossed a dozen Ace Hi's in the garbage this year from splitting and collecting water. I have learned to always watch my plugs in the water and check the action--if they spin they are wet. I am also only running a single hook on most of my plugs, saving tangles in the net and less snagged fish.

This is what fishing is all about!! A couple of kids whacking their first big salmon and wanting to go get more. Some are getting dark, but others are still silver and scales still flaking off. Have had very few with meat that is white yet but still very, very orange.
